Brief History

Meghji Building Tenant’s C.H.S.L is popularly known as Meghji Building and is situated at 102 – 104, Shivdas Champsi Marg, Mazgaon, Mumbai – 400 009. It was constructed in the year 1923 during British period. The whole building premises comprises of three wings – A, B & C having G + 3 floors. It also has many patrashed godowns and a huge compound between the building and patrashed godowns. The total area of the plot is 3855.55 Sq. Mtrs. It has approximately 172 occupants all including members and non-members. Now it’s considered to be located in the prominent centre of south Mumbai.

Meghji Building was in the possession of Diamond Jubilee Trust, Mazgaon, Mumbai till the year 1982, when in the year 1982, 77 tenants of the building contributed around Rs. 5,75,000/- and purchased the entire premises in auction from the Diamond Jubilee Trust and thus all these 77 tenants now became owners of the entire premises. Thereafter, these 77 owners formed a co-operative housing society named as Meghji Building Tenant’s Co-operative Housing Society Limited in the year 1984 – 1985 with Late Shri Muljibhai D. Solanki as its first Chief Promotor. The rest of the tenants who were tenants of Diamond Jubilee Trust now became Tenants of Meghji Building Tenant’s Co-op. Hsg. Soc. Ltd., as they had not contributed any amount towards purchase of this premises nor applied for membership till date.

The building being one of the oldest building constructions, it is now going for redevelopment following all the guidelines laid by Government of Maharashtra.
